About
Self defence (including Close Quarters Combat) is not about learning to fight… it is about empowering people to survive. A street fight is very different to a cage fight. One is a fight for survival the other is a fight for sport.
Two principles are core to what I teach. The first is that we must accept reality before we can train for it. Something my mentor and Atemi-Jujitsu teacher, Shihan Thaya Moodaley, instilled in all his students. So whether teaching traditional kungfu or military combatives training we must search for truth and ensure that we are “training for reality”. The second principle is that we train warriors and not thugs. When training someone to hurt another person we must ensure that they do not fight for any other reason than to defend themselves or others. Warriors fight when there is no other option. When they do fight they fight hard and well and with purpose.
